Benidorm Town Hall still in turmoil.

Benidorm Town Hall.
Six months after the local elections took place (back in May) and Benidorm STILL has no ruling council ! No one party gained overall control - 13 seats are required and both the PP (Conservatives) and PSOE (Socialists) won 11  with 3 going to the CDL meaning that they held the balance of power. However, its leader Gema Amor has not yet joined forces with either party leaving Benidorm in the wilderness. Ms Amor was originally a member of the PP but fell out of favor with them and set up her own Independant party, the CDL. Her "terms" to either party was that she wanted to become Mayor of the town .... this girl certainly knows how to bargain! Up to now Augustin Navarro, the previous Mayor kept the title but now that the PP won the general elections the crown has gone to the PP ... so in essence Manuel Perez Fenoll take title - although not the power.
Miss Amor had been in talks with Augustin Navarro last week and is due to speak with Mayor Fenoll today. Asked whether  Benidorm will have a coalition government before Xmas she replied that "The date is not important" .... With the current financial crisis it is important that the situation is resolved as quickly as possible. Nothing in Benidorm can get done and being a major tourist attraction and therefore income generator it is imperative that this "squabbling and blackmailing" gets dealt with quickly - it has already been 6 months and if you take a walk through the town you will see many works started have been left unfinished which is the sad result of this inability to compromise!
I would love it if both the major parties, PP and PSOE told her to take a hike and somehow managed to work together .....  but can you imagine say Cameron and Milband doing that - unfortunately unlikely but she'd get what she deserves .... nothing! As the PP is now in power in Madrid, pressure is being put on the Benidorm PP to come to a resolution and work with the Independant party (even if it means Amor becoming Mayor!)
