Notable Benidorm dates for 2013

What Benidorm is all about.... sun and sand
If you are shivering from the typically British weather then let me assure you that it does even get cold here in Spain. However, today we enjoyed a glorious day, with the thermometers reaching 24 degrees - I must add that for this time of the year it is not the norm though.... I´d love to boast that it was. I can sympathise with you all having just returned from a trip to the UK, but I only had to suffer a week of snow and bitterly cold winds!

Many now look to book their holidays to the sun, which Benidorm has by the bucket - and possibly some of you may be able to sneak in a cheeky weekend break too. Obviously the traditional June to September months are popular, especially if you have school age children. But if you are looking at other times of the year, there are some notable events going on in Benidorm which may be of interest.

Benidorm Carnival
February 9th & 10th : Carnival weekend, which is always 40 days before the beginning of Easter. Not quite on the scale as the one in Rio de Janeiro, the home of Carnival, but certainly worth a look at.

March 19th : Burning of the Fallas. The biggest display is held in Valencia, but Benidorm also has some spectacular paper mache figures which are burnt on the evening of the 19th. They are erected around the town at the weekend (16th), allowing visitors to admire them before the ritual burning.

Me with the main men from the series
March 25th to end June: Filming of the 6th series of Benidorm. Derren Litten, the writer and creator was presented with a plaque by the Mayor of Benidorm last September for his contribution to increased tourism to the town. It was during that presentation that Derren made the announcement that there would be a 6th series. The cast will be living in and around Benidorm for the duration and there´s a very good chance you may bump into some of them.

September 13th, 14th & 15th : Gay Pride, now in its 3rd year. Mainly concentrated in the Old Town with a massive parade on the Saturday night which will finish at the Town Hall Square, where the main stage will be situated.

November 9th - 13th : Benidorm fiesta.... on the last evening- the 13th, there is a traditional float parade through the Old Town and then a massive firework display on the beach.

British Fancy DRess Day 2012
NOVEMBER 14th..... BRITISH FANCY DRESS DAY !!!! This is THE event of the year and is growing bigger every year - it has overtaken every other celebration in the town and people book from one year to the next. The local police have to close roads off to traffic due to the volume of people attending. The Brits certainly know how to party is all I can say.

Below is a link to a video made by TVCostas of last years Fancy Dress Day which has just been released today. If you were there see if you can spot yourself. If you haven´t yet been then this clip will certainly give you a taste of what to expect, and hopefully entice you to come and join in the fun. But if you are planning on coming then I suggest you get a move on, as hotels and flights get booked up pretty quickly
