After a complete renovation, the "Riviera Beach Hotel" has just re-opened its door to customers as an adult only hotel - no under 16's. What a brilliant idea ...It is located in the heart of the Benidorm entertainment district on the Avd. Derramador ( the road leading from the Sunday market to the Indoor market). The Sol Pelicanos and Morgan's Tavern, aka Neptunes Bar, both featured in the ITV hit series "Benidorm" are both within 100 metres.

One of the great things about Benidorm is that there is so much to do once here. The beautiful sandy beaches are the first stop and probably the reason why most visitors come here - but Benidorm is also home to 3 theme parks: Terra Mitica, Aqualandia and Terra Natura/Aqua Natura. All are easily accessed whether you have a car or not and serviced by a regular bus service from the centre of town.

Spain, unlike the UK is somewhat in the dark ages when it comes to round the clock shopping - 24hr supermarket opening has not hit this country yet. Infact it has only been since the beginning of the month that Sunday openings have started due to the influx of holiday visitors to our shores. Carrefour is now open until midnight 7 days a week and the shopping complex opposite "Marina Centre" has also opened its doors to Sunday trading.

Quieter Benidorm beaches

Benidorm is renowned for its beautiful sandy beaches and the reason most visitors come to holiday here . Levante, probably the most popular and well known is busy and  full of life with bars and restaurants lining the promenade thumping out music, but if you want a more sedate one then take a trip to either Poniente or La Cala. These are the ones favoured by both the locals and Spanish as they are quieter and more family orientated.

Eyesore removed in Benidorm.

The eyesore that stood for many years on the crossroads of Avd. Mediteraneo and Avd. Europa is at long last being demolished. The derelict buildings had been boarded up for at least the last10 years and the Town Hall has been insistent that they are demolished as they were both a danger and unsightly. At one point they said if the landlord did not start then the authorities would take over and bill him for the costs.

Car hire "petrol policy"

You've booked the "cheap" flight for your well deserved break to Benidorm now for the hire car...... don't get caught out with the online quoted price! This is very rarely the final amount you pay, which you will discover upon collection at the airport. My main gripe is the petrol sting. You collect the car, with a tank full of petrol but the companies vary on how you return it back.

The Old Town is located between the Levante and Poniente beaches and a far cry from the "British Square" and what people associate when they hear the word "Benidorm". Its not all "2 for 1 Happy Hour" and "All Day Breakfast" - although if that's what you want there is plenty to be had.The Old Town is like a step back in time - full of narrow cobbled streets adorned with white-washed houses and an abundance of tapas bars, boutiques and restaurants.

Now that the sun is shining everyone feels better - whether you are on holiday or are lucky enough to live here the sun puts everyone in "holiday mode"... unfortunately it appears to have the same effect on our brains! You become more relaxed and carefree and this is when you are more likely to fall prey to becoming a victim of theft.

Be aware of driver related scams on holiday!

User Rating: 0 / 5

Star InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar Inactive

With it coming up to the peak holiday season in Benidorm, you need to be aware of potential scams that you as holiday makers may be subjected to. Residents are all to aware of these and also fall victim but I thought it best to forewarned ! When hiring cars it is only too obvious that you are on holiday. It was once proposed that car hire companies remove their stickers from cars identifying them as so, but this has obviously not happened.
