Well I think that everyone who attended this years Benidorm Pride would certainly agree that it was a huge success. Events kicked off on Friday evening from the giant stage underneath the Town Hall with DJ Sammy Kruz warming everyone up with a fantastic selection of music - there followed a "Drag Queen" gala, some fantastic Spanish singers and one the most popular girl tribute groups, "Girls Aloud", performing to the delighted audience.

However, the event which everyone was really looking forward to was the parade, which took place on the Saturday. Everyone was already starting to assemble by 6pm in the Rincon de Loix outside Burger King and the police even blocked off the road to traffic.

There was a riot of colour - with everyone trying to out do each other on the sequins and glitz front.... I most certainly felt under dressed! There was a real mix of local residents and holiday makers - both Spanish and British.

In fact, I spoke to 2 lovely ladies who were on holiday from Middlesbrough - Rita and Janice and they were having a great time among the crowds. The participants all happily posed for photographs, showing off their beautiful costumes. They should most definitely keep hold of them and bring them out for the British Fancy Dress Day on 14th November.

It was a real party atmosphere and everyone had a great afternoon. An open topped double decker bus took part in the parade as well as a stretch limo carrying Lady gaga and a host of other vehicles - the lucky ones went on those whilst the rest walked along... I really don´t know how they did it in those heels - and as a number of them were men and not use to it I take my hat off to them... my feet were throbbing!
Winners of the Mr Levante & Mr Poniente competition
As you can see from the small selection of pictures I have posted, it really was a great event with everybody embracing the meaning of the occasion. Sammy told me that next year he is hoping for bigger and better - I wish him luck and congratulations on a fantastic pride - you´ll certainly be giving some of the others around Europe a run for their money! Well done .... I bet that the Old Town is very quiet and subdued today!
