More of these on the streets...
There is both good and bad news for those that drive or are here with a hire car for their holidays. Parking in Benidorm over the busy summer months is quite difficult anyway, with most trying to find one of the free white parking bays. These are generally off the main Avd Mediterraneo, on the smaller side streets.
However, these will be even harder to find as the Mayor of Benidorm, Agustin Navarro has signed an agreement with "Park Control 2000", the commercial operators of the blue parking zones to create a further 345 spaces in the city which will become pay & display.

This will affect the Poniente beach side, which will now have an extra 185 blue spaces on the main Avd Vicente Llorca Alos which is the road that runs along the promenade; Rincon de Loix will have an additional 120 spaces on two streets, the main road that runs into Benidorm starting at the Round Town Tourist Office and going all the way past the indoor market and on the Avd Juan Fuster Zaragoza - the road that heads from the indoor market with the back entrance of the Sol Pelicanos hotel and the Centro de Salud and the third area is the LÁiguera area - beside the Town Hall.

The opposition PP party within the council have opposed the move stating that it represents a "substantial change" to the original contract, which was granted for 1400 spaces and that has now increased by 24%. They also commented that the company plan to begin painting the blue lines with immediate effect and not wait until the end of the month - well time is money!

Cheaper petrol on a Friday!
And what about the good news I hear you all asking..... well believe it or not, Repsol have promised that petrol prices will come down every Friday throughout July and August! I did in fact pop down this morning to my local Repsol service station and the price had come down by 5 cents from yesterday! Todays price for "95 petrol" was 1.43 euros per litre and for diesel 1.35 euros per litre.
The scheme is to help the social traveller to promote travelling over the weekend and the offer will apply to all Repsol, Campsa and Petronor service stations, which all come under the Repsol parent company. So if you need to fill up then try to do it on a Friday....
