Now that the Summer and good weather have arrived, so has the return of the artisan craft market up at "El Castell" - or the Mirador, which is the look out point located just past the Santa Ana church at the top of the Old Town.

15 stalls will be selling an assortment of hand made items such as pottery, jewellery, leather goods, ornaments, glass pendants and there will also be a stall represented by ASMIBE - Disabled Association of Benidorm who are selling items made by their members.

There are also about a dozen artists - both portrait and caricature who can produce fabulous sketches for you which would make a lovely souvenir to take back. All those taking part are local artists coming from Benidorm, Finestrat, Villa Joyosa, La Nucia and Altea.

Throughout the month of July, there will also be workshops taking place - however they will obviously be in Spanish, but you may find that many of them can speak English as they deal with tourists on a daily basis. The one hour workshops start at 8.30pm and include: pottery, silver, jewellery making, leather, glass blowing, soaps - in fact virtually all of the stall holders present will be showcasing how their products are made.

The square is full of people walking around admiring the view and stopping off for a drink at one of the many bars - so typically Spanish. It was starting to get really busy at around 10pm - the craft stalls stay open daily till around midnight, or probably later if there are still lots of people there I would guess.

Busy Tapas Alley last night
I passed through Tapas Alley on my way back to the car and it was absolutely heaving - with not a spare table at any of the tapas bars or restaurants... and let me tell you there are plenty of them! People were standing shoulder to shoulder at the bar counter inside enjoying a drink until a table became available.

Now that the wonderfully warm balmy nights are here it will be busy every day - a welcome relief for the bar owners I would imagine after the rather poor Spring we had.  If you want to experience some true Spanish atmosphere head up to the Old Town - it´s a million mile away from the culture of the Rincon end...
