This Sunday, 25th November there will be a massive fundraising event in aid of "Costa Blanca Dog Homing" at the hugely popular "Showboat" in the Rincon de Loix - home of the fabulous Miss Levi!

The event is being organised by 2 lovely ladies, Becky Sweetman and Linda Soler who work tirelessly in rescuing and re-homing abandoned dogs and puppies. They are solely dependent on donations received to enable them to carry out this worthy work.

Both Becky and Linda belonged to different Facebook dog groups and found that their passion for helping these animals was the same. Approximately 7 months ago they set up "Costa Blanca Dog Homing" so that they could deal solely with this growing issue in the area. What started as a rather small group of 40 members has now swelled to nearly 1200!

With the economic crisis deepening, people are finding it harder to make ends meet and unfortunately pets are often the ones that shoulder the brunt of this by being abandoned. Linda told me of some of the heartbreaking stories they have to deal with which leaves them crying for days but happy endings are what they aim for.

Every week they have a "Dog of the Week" on their Facebook page, which is usually one that is harder to re-home. Recently they managed to find a loving home for a 13 year old dog that had been in a kennel for most of its life.... "its at times like this that makes all the hard work worth it".  Many of the dogs rescued go to the UK and Germany and money is needed for the transportation.

Venue for Sunday´s event...
The fundraiser started off as a raffle for a Christmas Hamper and the girls contacted some local businesses asking for any donations which could go towards it. They were hoping for the odd tin of dog food or bottle of wine but were literally overwhelmed with the response.

Wayne was quick to step in and offer the "Showboat" as a venue for what has now become a massive event. I spoke with Wayne and he passionately supports the work that they do and will be hosting the auction and raffle throughout the afternoon. One of the top auction prizes is the hire of a 48ft Fly Cruiser for 8 people with rods & beer included, which was donated by Alicante Charter Experience worth over 1200 euros and a weeks free stay for 4 people in an apartment in Benidorm which was donated by Beni-Lets! See, there are certainly some amazing prizes on offer and not only that, but a number of Benidorm´s musicians and entertainers will be playing throughout the afternoon including Adele, Abba, Shoewaddywaddy, Deb&Her, Michael Bubble, Lady Gaga and comedian Tony Scott. Where can you find so many of Benidorm´s top acts in one venue?

The stage will be busy on Sunday and inside packed!
It will be Wayne´s swan song as Showboat will then be closed until Tuesday 18th December whilst he goes for a much deserved break. He will recharge his batteries ready for the Christmas rush and brand new Christmas show - in fact, since opening on 1st March of this year he has been working 7 days a week flat out. Anyone that has been in will see Wayne flying around the restaurant all evening then transforming into Miss Levi and performing his show until the early hours - I certainly want some of what he´s on!

The fundraiser kicks off at 2pm this Sunday and will run into the evening.... the restaurant will be open if anyone would like one of the delicious Sunday roasts to keep them going and Im sure the day will be a great success. The girls have asked if anyone attending has any spare towels or blankets to please bring them along as they are desperately needed at one of the refuges.
