Avd Europe looking down towards the Avd Mediterraneo

Following a successful trial over the summer to pedestrianise part of the Calle Gerona, Benidorm council now wants to make it permanent and expand the scheme. Mayor Navaro said that the trial was welcomed by both local businesses and  visitors who could dine al fresco without the noise, danger and pollution of passing cars... and obviously smokers were able to enjoy their cigarette without having to leave the table to go outside.
His aim is to link the two sides of Benidorm by
building a pedestrian bridge over the Avd. Europe which divides the two sides. This is obviously a lenghty and extremely expensive project. The Town Hall would like to open up a competition for architecs from around the world to design a pedestrianised zone to incorporate a bridge.

The Town Halls architect Enrique Lopez is hoping that within a year they will have a viable project to hand out for tender so work can commence. The funding would be provided by large companies such as Coca Cola, McDonalds who would reep lucrative advertising opportunities from the mile long stretch... well thats the idea at least.
However, looking at the "progress" of the Casa de Cultura on the Avd. Europa which has been at a standstill for some years now I think that the phrase "long term project" will take on a new meaning !
