Me & Steve outside Hotmale Radio in Alfaz

ITV's Daybreak Entertainment correspondent Steve Hargrave has been in Benidorm  since last Wednesday pre-recording clips in preparation for Monday and Tuesday's live broadcast. I have been accompanying Steve and the crew around various locations over the last few days and on Saturday had the opportunity to personally interview Steve  following a live broadcast on Hotmale Radio (99.5 & 105.7fm) by Jessie Brooke. What a thoroughly charming, unpretentious and down to earth gent he is !
This is Steve's second visit to Benidorm - although his first was literally a day trip last year to cover the ITV hit comedy series "Benidorm" Xmas special. Well he has certainly experienced the many different sides to Benidorm on this return journey.
Steve started his career as a journalist working for a local ITN radio station in Bournmouth and soon after moved to London where his career really took off. He worked for ITV News and  "London Tonight" followed by a 3 year stint at Sky News as leading Entertainment Corespondent before moving to Daybreak. Only 3 weeks ago Steve was on the red carpet at the Harry Potter premier in Trafalgar Square meeting the cast - and the queen of the film Emma Watson aka Hermione Grainger remembered Steve as he has been at every Harry Potter premier and came over especially to greet him  .... and now 3 weeks later he's in Benidorm meeting a different sort of queen - The Dutchess of Don Juan ! You never know what's going to happen from one week to the next in showbiz as Steve told me.... be prepared for anything is his motto.

Hitting "The Square" on Wednesday night

During his time at Sky he has had the opportunity to interview so many celebrities that it was like a dictionary of who's who!  Amongst the many stars  were Tom Cruise, Will Smith, Britney Spears  (surrounded by agents checking every question asked) and  Ashton (don't ask about Demi) Kutcher - but he also had the privilege of interviewing true legends such as Sir David Attenborough and Sir Paul McCartney .... even shaking the famous Beatle's guitar playing hand! His most unexpected moment was being snogged by James Corden (of Gavin & Stacey fame) on the Red Carpet at the 2010 National television Awards!
I asked Steve what his next project was after he had finished here in Benidorm. He is hoping to take a two week break to the States before preparing for the Autumn madness of reality TV shows such as X-Factor and all the forthcoming Award Ceremonies. As we bade farewell he was off back into Benidorm to judge auditions taking place in "Rachels Bar" to find one our of resident tribute bands to play live at Mondays live broadcast. Poor Steve has been on the go since he arrived - easily working 12 hour days and not a free afternoon for a spot of sunbathing! But being the true pro that he is he never once moaned and took it all in his stride.....  always finding time to shake hands and chat with locals and holiday-makers and stopping filming to enable them have a photo together.
Don't forget that Steve will be on the Levante Beach on Monday 1st August from 7am onwards.
