Alfaz Town Hall are trialling a night time market along the sea front in Albir for the first time this year. It is open every night - including Sunday, from 7.30pm till midnight throughtout July and August - and if successful will run until October.. For the last few years there have alway been a selection of Art & Craft stalls located near to the anchor throughout July and August which are also still there. They sell hand crafted goods such as jewellery, leather goods and also have artists drawing caricatures and henna tatooists.
Before the night market opened I passed the Frax Foundation car-park and noticed that a corner had been concreted to erect a building of some sort - I came to the conclusion that they were moving the "broom sized" police station into bigger premises for the summer duration. Wrong - it has turned out to be a bar/cafe for the stall holders! Typical Spanish ..... if there are more than half a dozen Spaniards then there needs to be a bar present. The market was buzzing with both locals and tourists and there was a good visible police presence to deter and pick pockets etc.
So even for those of you holidaying in Benidorm and would like a change, you can take the No 10 bus straight to the Albir seafront and enjoy a leisurely evening stroll , take in the ambience and invest in a "Gucci" handbag or designer sunglasses! All the bars and restaurants are open opposite so you can make an evening of it.
