busy levanteWelcome to Benidorm in August, traditionally the month when the Spanish from Madrid also descend on the resort! The golden sandy beaches, along with the fantastic weather are what attract millions here every summer – and this year is no exception.

umbrellas on LevanteThe popular Levante beach, in particular at the Rincon end, is completely ram packed with holidaymakers and multicoloured umbrellas are virtually touching one another on the sand. Temperatures are in the mid to high 30’s and it’s a feat trying to find a space in the water to cool down without elbowing someone in the eye.

frontlineTo get a front line position here you need to be up early – places are already being pitched well before 8am. But walk down a bit and the mid section is about 60 metres wide, with plenty of room for everyone to spread out comfortably.

la calaAlternatively, if you want to relax in peace and quiet then head down to the Poniente or La Cala beach - it’s a million miles away from the hustle, bustle and noise. In fact, you’d be forgiven for thinking you were somewhere else completely instead of Benidorm.

almadravaFor the slightly more adventurous, head to one of the two hidden rocky coves – Almadrava and Tio Ximo. They take a little effort to get to – those with mobility issues should probably give them a miss but here you won’t find hordes of tourists.

benidorm lifeguardPlease pay attention to the lifeguards – failure to adhere can result in a hefty fine. With so many people their job is difficult enough and remember, they are just looking after your best interests and safety. If you have a medical emergency then head to the candy strip huts – they also have defibrillators there.
