The ninth Benidorm Pride parade took place here yesterday – what for many is the highlight of the entire week. 23 floats and 300 people took part in this colourful and vibrant affair with an array of flamboyant and eye-catching costumes.
Cars, vans, buses and lorries were converted into floats with mobile sound studio blasting out music to add to the carnival like atmosphere. There were balloons, feathers, glitz and some cheeky outfits amongst the many - witheven the crowds embracing the rainbow theme.
The morning started somewhat ominously, with heavy downpours leaving everyone somewhat concerned – but thankfully the grey clouds lifted as did everyone’s spirits. Due to the roadworks along the main Avd Mediterraneo, the route was changed and went along the entire length of the beach – far better so hopefully they may keep it!
The entire route was lined with spectators, with crowds gathering well before the parade started, vying for a good position. Town Hall figures estimate that 15,000 attended and once the parade had finished everyone headed to the Julio Iglesias auditorium for the fabulous T-Dance party with some of Benidorm’s favourite tributes performing until 1am.
