The thirteenth San Silvestre Christmas fun run took place in Benidorm this morning. There was a fantastic turnout of competitors – around 300 and hoardes of spectators cheering them on, on what was an ideal day, sunny with a slight breeze.
Starting outside the Cimbel hotel, the mayor fired the starting claxon sending runners down to the cable ski end of the Levante promenade and then all the way up to the opposite end and back – a 5km circuit.
Many were dressed up wearing santa hats, reindeer headbands, fairy tutu´s and an assortment of festive costumes. The fastest runner was Juanfran Fernandez from the Benidorm athletic club, finishing in an astounding 15 minutes and 21 seconds and the fastest female, coming in at 16 minutes and 01 seconds was Maria Fuentes Olcina, also from the same club.
Alongside runners there were also a few dogs and babies being pushing in parms. There were prizes awarded to the best fancy dress outfits, trophy’s for the winners of each category plus each runner received a goodie bag.
