Police pounding the streets of Benidorm

Although a common sight in the UK you hardly ever see police walking the streets here - they normally patrol in their cars. What a simply "MABulous" day it was today! This afternoon marked a milestone for MABS - a support group in Spain for those affected by cancer, with the grand opening of a brand new centre located in La Cala - officially in Finestrat, although most refer to it as Benidorm. MABS are one of the leading charities in Spain dedicated to the support of all who are affected by cancer.

Well Ive got to eat my words for being such as cynic..... the progress on the new casino, located on the Avd Mediterraneo is astounding. I was in Benidorm on 24th December and the crane was actually being erected - yes on Christmas Eve. I thought once that was up nothing would then happen for months, if not years, which is not unusual here in the least.

Benidorm campsites getting popular

Not only was hotel occupancy better for 2013 than the previous year, but the campsites of Benidorm have also experienced a 3% increase year on year following the best December occupancy in years - maybe something to do with the extremely mild weather we had here. There are certainly plenty to chose from, and much like hotels differ vastly in size and facilities offered

British visitors are the biggest and most important nationality of the tourism sector here and it is imperative to be able to advise them on all aspects of the resort.

Return of Benidorm series 6

Last night the much awaited and eagerly anticipated 6th series of the ITV hit comedy series Benidorm returned to our screens - and it certainly didn´t disappoint. All the old favourites have returned in addition to a new family, the Dykes, who have already made quite an impression!It must be one of the few times we have seen Madge walking and without her scooter - but fear not, it arrived by the end of the episode.

Getting to Benidorm

Arriving at El Altet Alicante airport there are several "road" options to get to Benidorm, by which I mean transfer/shuttle bus, private transfer or car hire - it must be one of the few main airports which is not served by a railway link. Last year more than 38,000 travellers used the TRAM AVE to get to Benidorm from Alicante and of that figure, 70% (27,000) was between June and September - peak holiday time.

The fourth "San Silvestre" race took place in Benidorm this morning - and there was a fantastic turnout of both competitors and spectators. The start point was on the Levante promenade, just before the Guinness Bar on the front. All of the participants had to register first and receive a number and in total just under 700 entered. The weather was perfect - blue sky and a very slight warm breeze...

Benidorm joins two other European cities, London and Cork to bring in tighter regulations for street entertainers. Benidorm have been holding auditions for hopefuls wanting to apply for a licence and the authorities are taking it all very seriously, with a panel of judges!
