The thirteenth San Silvestre Christmas fun run took place in Benidorm this morning. There was a fantastic turnout of competitors – around 300 and hoardes of spectators cheering them on, on what was an ideal day, sunny with a slight breeze. Competitors completed a 5km circuit, from one end of the Levante promenade to the other, with the winner finishing in just 15 minutes and 21 seconds !

The countdown to Christmas began this evening following the official turning on of the lights in the town hall square – renamed Christmas Square for the duration of the festive period. An explosion of gold and silver confetti cascaded down and fireworks signalled the start of festivities. There are numerous fairground type rides and activities dotted around, including the very popular ice rink, which will all remain in place until January 7 – the day after 3 Kings

It has been announced that Victoria Aragüés Gadea, better known to millions as ´Sticky Vicky´ passed away this morning - Wednesday 29 November, aged 80. A trained ballerina, she came to Benidorm in the early 80´s where she soon became a hit with British holidaymakers for her ´X-rated magic show´- performing several times a night in bars and clubs across the popular Rincon de Loix. A visit to Benidorm wasn´t complete without seeing her... at least once!

Now somewhat of a yearly tradition (although not an official event), British fancy dress day took place today (Thursday) …. always the day after the end of the official Benidorm fiesta. An astonishing 40,000 Brits have attended this year according to town hall stats, transforming calle Gerona, which had been closed to traffic into a kaleidoscope of colours and costumes. What sets this event apart is the sheer diversity of costumes on display.

The Benidorm fiesta officially ended this evening – Wednesday 15 November with a grand float parade through the streets of the old town followed by a spectacular fireworks display lit from the Poniente beach, where 1,496kg of gunpowder was exploded over 18 minutes... a fabulous conclusion to the Spanish fiesta! Tomorrow it will be the turn of the Brits with the British Fancy Dress Day - Europe´s largest such event!

Today, Saturday 14 October, saw the official launch of the Royal British Legion Spain North Poppy Appeal, which took place in Benidorm, led by the spectacular Torrevieja Pipes & Drums. The sound of the bagpipes attracted the attention of all along the Levante promenade, who quickly lined the route, applauding as they and the Standard Bearers marched by.

The spectacular and much-anticipated Moors and Christians fiesta has just taken place in neighbouring Altea – the highlight of the annual calendar. The parades took place over two separate dates – first the Christians last Saturday night followed by the Moors on Monday night. Tuesday is the last day of fiestas and by Wednesday, everything will be back to normal, with all shops and businesses open again. The BENIDORM one takes place on Saturday 30 September at 20:00

The highlight of pride week – the colourful parade, took place in Benidorm this afternoon. Starting from the end of the Levante promenade, a succession of decorated cars, vans, buses and lorries were accompanied by hundreds of participants in an array of vibrant and eye-catching costumes, including comedienne Crissy Rock. The annual Holi colour festival took place at Terra Natura in Benidorm this afternoon, attracting thousands of visitors to the park. But before the magical explosion of colour took place, the crowds gathered at the elephant enclosure to help celebrate Petita´s 51st Birthday - where she and companion Kaiso were treated to a basket of fruit and veg!

Football certainly brings out the passion and virtually every bar in Benidorm was broadcasting the England v Spain Women´s World Cup final today. The giant poolside screen of the Marina hotel was one of the best vantage points, attracting both the Brits and Spanish, including players from the youth Benidorm football teams. The beers flowed and the sun blazed down... but sadly, it wasn´t to be for England - this time!

Aqualandia – Europe´s biggest waterpark opened today, Thursday 1st June for the summer season. After a number of weeks of very unseasonal weather in the resort, with days of thunderstorms usually associated with March or April, everyone breathed a sigh of relief that that sun has finally made a comeback. The beaches were packed, with many British families still here over the school half term taking full advantage.

There were heavy grey clouds and rain this morning yet come lunchtime, the holidaymakers were out as quickly as the sun – making the most of it… and going by the last week, who can blame them. The promenade was full, the bars were busy and everyone was happy.
