  • I had the honour and pleasure of meeting Sheila Reid this week - now most widely recognised as the razor tongued perma-tanned matriarch from the ITV hit comedy series "Benidorm". However, in real life you couldn´t get further from the truth - which is a great credit to her acting abilities. In the series Madge has a sharp northern accent, often spouting caustic remarks but Sheila is very softly and well spoken

  • The day has arrived…. the final episode of the ITV comedy Benidorm will be aired tonight following confirmation that the show will be axed by ITV bosses amid falling ratings. Rumours had been circulating since March, with many tabloids running those headlines, but writer Derren Litten had always been somewhat arrogant in replies on his twitter account to those asking that very question. There will be tears shed by many, either of sadness or joy because a bit like marmite – you either loved it or hated it. Speaking with British expats that live here, most fall into the latter category whereas generally speaking, those in the UK loved it. Perhaps they just love seeing glimpse of their favourite holiday destination, bringing back fond memories.

  • The first ever "BeniCon" took place last weekend (November 18-20) a 3-day convention dedicated to fans of the ITV series ´Benidorm´ which saw more than 1,000 attend. Although the sitcom stopped airing back in 2018, it still has a huge fanbase, which was evident over the course of the weekend, with many fans flocking over from the UK to be part of the experience.

  • Are you a fan of the Benidorm series? You are not alone. The popular British sitcom ran for 10 series – first aired in March 2007 and the last on May 2nd, 2018 before being axed by ITV. It attracted millions of viewers and won a number of National Television Awards over the years in the comedy category. Now the news is out that the organiser of the popular 3 day Elvis Fest Peter Phillips has collaborated with Derren to bring you “BeniCon” – a 3 day fan convention starting the day after the November British fancy dress day – Friday 18 to Sunday 20 November 2022.

  • Derren Litten, writer and creator of the ITV sitcom series ‘Benidorm’ and now Benidorm Live, the touring show has announced that he is engaging in talks to discuss “Benidorm The Movie” with film producers, which will be a movie version of the Live Show. ITV executives axed the television show this year after falling ratings, with series 10 the last – the very first was aired back in 2007. There was certainly a mixed reaction for the show, which had a marmite effect – you either loved it or hated it. But it will be a welcome relief for fans of the show, who were left heartbroken when it was confirmed that there would be no more new series made in the popular resort. Only this week workmen and skips were outside what is affectionately referred to as ‘The Pink House’ - ripping out the props which made up the reception of the fictitious Solana.

  • Following the success of the award winning ITV series "Benidorm", the town has become a mecca for those retired Brits in their sunset years heading for Benidorm to let down their blue-rinsed hair in the hundreds of thousands. Endevouring to follow in the footsteps of their on-screen idol Madge, the streets of Benidorm have been turned into a motorway of pensioners on mobility scooters!

  • Benidorm has passed a new by-law regarding electric scooters, Segway’s and yes, mobility scooters which rose in popularity after Madge appeared on one in the Benidorm series. The Councillor for Mobility explained that these new regulations will ensure the safety of both the users, pedestrians, cyclists and drivers. These fast moving electric vehicles will be banned from pavements with the exception of mobility scooters used by those who are disabled or with reduced mobility – obviously no one else should be using one anyway!

  • The long awaited crackdown on mobility scooters in Benidorm appears to have begun – a relief to many. The by-law – banning under 55´s unless mobility impaired, was passed 31st March 2014 by the previous administration, but never appeared to be implemented – to the frustration of genuine users and pedestrians. How many times have we all seen obvious very abled youngsters whizzing up and down the Levante promenade on these vehicles, riding at speed. Last weekend 27 fines were issued, sparked after a street cleaner was hit by one and taken to hospital – thankfully only suffering from bruises – plus a number were impounded. Since July 15, a total of 47 scooter fines have been issued according to the authorities.

  • Local Police in Benidorm in conjunction with the town hall, have embarked on a clampdown over the rental and use of mobility scooters and electric scooters in the town... long overdue according to many! Benidorm was one of the first places in Spain to regulate the hire of mobility scooters following complaints from road users and pedestrians.
