International Day in La Nucia

This coming Sunday, 30th March, the town of La Nucia will host it´s first "International Day". The event has been organised by the Department of Foreign Residents, instigated by the Councillor Bart Gomans.La Nucia has a population of 20,000 residents, of which nearly half are foreign - covering 84 different nationalities! I am confident that everyone will be relieved to know that Juan Ramon Martinez, Councillor responsible for cleaning the streets has proudly announced that since the "brown brigade" have been on duty they have fined 25 people for not picking up their dog mess - obviously not their own but that of their dogs! The fines are 150 euros, which is good but they have dedicated a policeman for this task!

Benidorm Palace shook last night as it hosted 2 great names from yesteryear - Comic Stan Boardman and the 60´s Merseybeat group "The Swinging Blue Jeans".They all flew in yesterday lunchtime and headed to the Palace for a sound check before the evenings performance.The band had been performing down in Bognor on the Saturday night - in fact, they have had a very hectic touring schedule of late.

Well it´s the lull before the storm as filming starts this coming Monday, 24th March of the 7th series of the ITV hit comedy "Benidorm"! Series 6 pulled in 6.8 million viewers - proving its ongoing popularity with the British public. The cast have been in rehearsals this week and you may even be lucky enough to see them out and about in town. Well the Guinness was certainly flowing in Benidorm this afternoon as Calle Gerona filled with people out celebrating St Patrick´s Day. The event turned into a weekend celebration this year with plenty of leprechauns running around!Everyone went to great lengths to join in the party atmosphere, with green the colour of the day. Many bars put of special live entertainment - and with the weather resembling a summer afternoon, the drinks flowed!

Benidorm´s Cross to be cleaned up

On the "to do" list for many when coming to Benidorm is to walk up to the cross. This is a landmark, situated on top of the mountain in the Rincon de Loix where you get the most spectacular view of Benidorm - especially when its a nice sunny day.I have been up there, but cheated - I drove! It really is quite a hike and every time I go I pass numerous walkers trekking up.
