I have often spoken about the great work that ex-pats here do for local Spanish charities and often wonder what would happen if it was not for the generous nature of the British. The recent incredible fundraiser at Showboat highlighted the kindness lavished here by many. No matter how small the donations they are always most gratefully received.

Yesterday I attended a handover by the ladies of the "Marina Alta & Costa Blanca Floral Club" for the sum of 500 euros to the local Teulada branch of the Alzheimer Association. The money was raised after a "Pimms & Ploughmans" afternoon at the Javea Bowls club at the beginning of October and they also had a secret auction to win a ride on the back of a Harley Davidson! That lucky lady was the club chairman Sue Makinson and she was taken for a spin by Peter Emmett, who is the Press Officer for Harley Davidson here on the Costa Blanca. He generously donated the experience to raise money for this very worthy cause and the pair were welcomed back after the ride by the club members, Mayor of Teulada Antonio Joan Bertomeu and Councillor of Social Services for Teulada Sylvia Tatnell.

Some of the cast of Motown....
There are many charity events coming up which may be of interest to some of you. Tonight and tomorrow - Friday 25th & Saturday 26th October there is a "Motown Soul Fever Show" performed by Streetwise Dance & Drama at the Auditorium in La Nucia and starting at 8pm. 60 performers, many of them children will perform a high energy fun packed show and part of the ticket sales will go to "Association Valenciano de Soloridad con los Niños" - a local charity helping those families with children affected by the current economic crisis in Spain.

On Tuesday 5th November - Bonfire Night there is a fun Race Night at Yorkshire Pride 2 on Calle Londres to raise funds to to buy Christmas presents for the Children of the Relleu . You can also drop off any presents at any of the Yorkshire Pride Pubs, Levi´s Showboat, Why Not Bar or Carousel Bar - but please try not to get toys that require batteries as they cannot afford to replace them.

Tuesday 26th November there is a Gala Show at the Rober Palace Hotel in Albir to raise funds for the Benidorm Alzheimers Association. The event is being organised by two ex-pat ladies, Rada Haupt and Melanie Howell - who have been doing the same event for the last 2 years. A host of top Benidorm performers will entertain you for the entire night - tickets cost 6 euros and ALL of that will go to the charity...

Sunday 17th November an afternoon of entertainment at Levi´s Showboat in the Rincon de Loix - many of the towns top stars will be there to raise money for two very worth causes - Royal British Legion and Local Doggie Charities... the money will be split 50/50.

Friday 13th Decemberat the Casa de Cultura in Alfaz the Broadway Academy will put on a fantastic Panto called "Cindersella" to raise funds for Emaus - Directed and Written by Matt King and Choreographed by Rebecca Troch.

Many of the fundraisers are for children.... obviously in the run up to Christmas very appropriate. I hope you will be able to join in some of the above events - if not you can always donate a gift for a child.
