Bikes all ready and waiting... |
In total 30 participant took part - and let me tell you that age was no barrier! The youngest was a young lady called Lacey who was 6 years old and came from Benidorm, accompanied by her parents and the oldest was Ray Barber - who was somewhat older!
Volunteers helping out |
The youngest and oldest participants |
I drove behind the pack along with the minibus, just incase of any injuries, punctures or giver uppers - but I am pleased to say that there were none and everyone completed the planned route!
It was a beautiful morning and the scenery was stunning - I must admit not being a walker or biker (no surprises there then) I have never been to this part of the Costa Blanca but can understand the attraction to such enthusiasts.
Tad and the boys raised 240 euros |
It was a superb effort by the local community to help a relatively small charity - it is estimated that in the region of 1500 euros was raised, but a total won´t be known until all sponsor money has been collected and added up.
I must say that I am extremely proud of my son who volunteered and managed to raise 174 euros - many thanks to all our friends who sponsored him. He is now thinking about doing another one as it was so rewarding.
Afterwards there was a fun afternoon at the Orange House in Finestrat with music, stalls, delicious bbq, drinks and even tree climbing!
Those brave enough had to try and pop a balloon suspended from a branch - and only one person managed it throughout the entire afternoon - a gent called Kevin Barber from Alfaz del Pi.... quite an action man and pictured here just as he had launched himself off ... he did pop that blue one by the way!
Well done and congratulations to everyone who took part and hope your legs didn´t ache too much in the morning! That´s one thing that the Brits are so great at - charity.
