Re-Invention is the key to success and the Marconfort hotel group have certainly achieved that with their latest project. What was previously known as the “Flamingo Playa Benidorm” has just undergone a major year long refurbishment and is now known as Marconfort Essence. It has a relaxed “Chill Out” theme, with a calming white and turquoise colour story running throughout.
All of the 126 rooms are suites – with six on each of the 21 floors. In addition to the bedroom and bathroom, each suite has a balcony, lounge and kitchen area – so even though it is All Inclusive, if you just fancy a snack in your room or keeping drinks chilled, you have the facilities. One particularly quirky concept is the flat screen television, hinged so you can swing it round to watch in the bedroom or lounge.
Drinks are available, including cocktails inside and also at the poolside bar - but remember that this is an adult only hotel. I particularly liked the wine dispenser in the restaurant!
The Marconfort is located far enough from the main clubs and bar not to be disturbed by music and loud antics but close enough as only a max ten minute walk to the Calle Gerona.
For the sporty they have some fantastic facilities for bikers – the pedal rather than motor. Looking to appeal to the growing cycling market, the garage area in the basement has a bike storage room plus repair workshop. Drive around outside of Benidorm and you will come across groups of lycra clad bikers – usually riding 3 abreast and causing a massive tailback behind them. They come from across Europe thanks to the climate and landscape, which is ideal for their training.
I spoke with reception and was surprised at how reasonably priced it was - from 80€ per suite per day dependant on season, obviously more in summer. For two adults on an all inclusive basis fantastic value.
Last year they refurbished another of their hotels, just around the corner – the “Benidorm Suites” and made it into a music themed hotel.
