paul and simon the authorsTwo local boys – Paul “Chunkz” Devlin and Simon Beighton have branched out from their daytime jobs here in Benidorm and joined forces to write a crime thriller together, “Genesis Chamber”. Many will recognize the popular pair from the entertainment circuit here in town - of which both are an active part.

paul chunkzPaul is part of the Shoe Waddy Waddy line up and recently started doing a Roy Orbison tribute too as well as being a playback assistant on the Benidorm series. Originally from Liverpool, Paul has been in Spain for 8 years, having moved over from Gran Canaria where he worked in the entertainment business for 5 years. He has always been musically inspired, maybe the fact that he attended the same Liverpool school as music legends Paul McCartney and George Harrison has something to do with it! Meanwhile, Simon has been in Spain for 9 years, moving from Wakefield in West Yorkshire and is the resident compare and DJ at Sinatra´s – something which he also did in the UK.

paul writingThe pair met whilst working and hit it off straight away, realizing that they both had a passion for writing and meet up everyday in town to work on their book. Simon is currently waiting for a hip replacement following a bad car accident in the UK many years ago – and finds writing very therapeutic. The pair meet up between 10am and 2pm every day, discussing ideas and plotlines. The story is based in America and they have a contact in the FBI who has guided them factually so it is as realistic as possible.

genesis chamber frontTheir original script was turned down, but not put off they persevered and sought the advice of Ken Scott, a well respected and published author living here, sending him the first 4 chapters to look through. He gave them some pointers and they went away and re-wrote, taking around 3 months and turned it into a book. They approached a number of publishers but there was too many compromises that they were expected to make, so instead have taken the step of going it alone and gone down the self-publishing route.

stacks of books ready for launchThe fruits of their labour can now be seen in the form of “The Genesis Chamber” and the boys will be having a book launch this coming Monday – 4th May, at the Indoor Market in the Rincon de Loix. The pair will be at the main entrance from 11am onwards, signing copies – and everyone who buys one will automatically be entered into a prize draw to win a brand new Kindle, with a copy already loaded on. They have been likened to authors John Grisham and Harlon Coben, a comparison which the pair a more than delighted with. Their dream would be to turn it into a movie – which was how they originally wrote the script and they envisage someone like actress Eva Mendes in the lead role as their the main character is of Hispanic origin. Who knows….. it is certainly worth a read if you like a good griping suspense thriller.
