The Benidorm fiesta officially ended this evening – Wednesday 15 November with a grand float parade through the streets of the old town. Each participating penya had a float and theme, with all ages taking part – from babies to grandparents.
The entire route was packed with spectators, eagerly vying to catch the tons of sweets being thrown out to the crowds. This year the route was reversed, starting from the end of the Levante promenade, heading up Ruzafa and down downwards Dove Park, where it finished.
This is actually more logical as the fiesta queens traditionally start the spectacular firework display, lit from the Poniente beach so didn´t have too far to travel. The entire promenade in front was cordoned off to stop anyone being hit by flying debris as the fireworks were let off from both the beach and from pontoons on the water. In total 1,496 kg of gunpowder was set off over an 18 minute duration.
A fabulous end to the Spanish fiesta… now it´s time for the Brits who will no doubt be out in force tomorrow!
