The spectacular Three Kings parade took place in Benidorm old town this evening (Sunday 5th) – a tradition that was repeated in many towns and cities across Spain on the eve of ‘Los Reyes Magos’ – with Melchor, Gaspar and Baltasar the stars of the event.
Setting off a little after 6pm from Parque de Elche (Dove Park) in the old town - virtually on time, numerous floats were interspersed with animated dance routines performed by students of local dance centres, an army of soldiers and marching bands.
There was also plenty of livestock, which to the delight of the crowds, included the well-behaved gaggle of geese. There were also goats, plenty of donkeys, some huge ox all being escorted by their keepers, all dressed the part too.
Thousands lined the entire route, all vying to catch some of the thousands of kilos of sweets thrown out to the crowds along the way by the Kings in the last float.... bet the numerous dentists here are happy and waiting for the phone calls!
Tonight children will be rushing home to get to bed and awake tomorrow to see what the Kings have left them. January 6th is a bank holiday here and the last of the Christmas festivities – then on Tuesday the sales start and it´s back to school for all the children.
