Last night the Valencian region went up in smoke ... literally, as the Fallas were lit!It was the grand finale and climax which marked the end of the 5 day fiesta. A years worth of hard work was reduced to a pile of ash in minutes - its amazing how quickly they burn.I travelled up to Valencia - the home of the Fallas.

Monday´s shocking headlines of the massive financial problems facing Cyprus has caused savers across all Euro countries concern. In exchange for a 10,000 million euro loan to stop the country facing bankruptcy, the Cypriot Government has been told to impose a tax on savers money deposited in banks - the majority will be charged a tax of 6.75% on savings under 100,000 euros.

The streets of Benidorm were a sea of green over the weekend, as hundreds descended on the town to celebrate Irelands national day - St Patrick´s Day.The celebrations started on the Friday, when the weather was glorious... unfortunately by Sunday it had turned somewhat Irish-like, grey and a little drizzle at times. Start of the Benidorm Fallas

It´s fiesta time again..... a month doesn´t seem to pass without there being some kind of celebration here. This time as well as being St Patrick´s weekend for the Brits, which has been well supported by the local bars, it is Spain´s most noisiest festival - Las Fallas.The various penya´s spend almost an entire year designing and building the beautifully crafted effigies.

Never to do things by half, St Patrick´s Day celebrations were already well under way yesterday in the heart of Benidorm. Not content with just celebrating on the actual day, it has become a weekend event! The sun was shining, everyone was out on the terraces and the drink was definitely flowing. Many of the bars had made a great effort, decorating them with Irish bunting and shamrock.

After many years, the Plaza de Toros will once again host bullfighting starting on Friday 29th March at 17.30pm - Good Friday, always a tradition at Easter in Spain. The contract to run bullfights has been won by a new company, Sinta 2005 SL. Six bulls, from Salamanca and three matadors will open the event: Manuel Diaz, Fandila David and Antonio Teruel. Ticket prices will range from 15 euros up to 70 euros

If you´re a lover of all things sweet then you will be delighted to know that I have discovered a hidden gem in the Old Town. Taking a walk down the Avd de Ruzafa the other day I turned down one of the side streets and ended up on Calle de Palma... this runs parallel with the Ruzafa and has Paneils restaurant on it. There I came across "Lala´s" which from the outside looks like a scene from Hansel and Gretel.
