There are so many things to do in Benidorm that you are unlikely to ever be bored - however, if you fancy a change of scenery and want to go somewhere else why not take a day trip out of Benidorm and go on a boat ride. You have several options - pop to Benidorm Island, the rock jutting out of the sea directly infront of Levante beach, the Island of Tabarca - up towards Alicante or how about a mini cruise to Calpe. The boat is a far better option in the Summer when traffic and parking is really difficult, so instead let the water take the strain! Alternatively, you can take the tram, but be aware that the station is some distance from the town. There is usually a bus that coincides with the timetable arrivals and departures just outside the station or you can take a taxi - it will probably be a good 20-30 minute brisk walk.

Traditionally and historically February is the coldest month here, so when it’s not beach weather and you want to do something, a great place to go and visit is Valencia – totally do-able for a day trip. I’d definitely recommend taking the coach rather than driving there yourself though and if you are flexible about your dates, you can get a ticket for as little as €5.20 one-way. Last year a channel 5 documentary series – Spectacular Spain with Alex Polizzi saw the hotel critic explore Valencia on her journey along the Costa Blanca, so why not try it for yourself.

Driving is a necessity for many, whether to get to work, take children to school or carry out daily chores. When coming on holiday many like the flexibility of a rental car, enabling them to get themselves back and forth to the airport without waiting around for shuttle buses, then using it to explore the surrounding area at leisure - Guadalest, Algar Waterfalls and Calpe all prime examples. Although all are accessible by publice transport you are more flexible with a car.

Guadalest is probably the most visited village not only of this area, but also of the entire country… and once there, you’ll understand why. Located inland, aprox 30km from Benidorm and around 600 mt above sea level up in the mountains, it attracts millions of visitors every year. Access to the picture postcard village is through a 15 mt long tunnel, which has been carved out through the rock.

A great place for a day trip is Jalon - sometimes referred as Xaló and located around 35km north east of Benidorm. It is an easy 30 minute drive along the N332, just follow the direction for Calpe. Jalon attracts many British expats to set up home there, especially families, as there is the Laude Lady Elizabeth secondary school nearby. Encompassed by some spectacular scenery, with the magnificent Sierra Bernia mountains forming a backdrop to the town, it is surrounded by fields of olive trees, almond & orange groves - but most of all, vines.

Now that the sun has arrived a must place to visit are the Fonts Algar waterfalls. A fantastic day trip if you are staying in Benidorm, they can be found on the outskirts of the village of Callosa d'En Sarria, aprox 15km outside of the resort. It is a real natural beautyspot and attracts thousands of visitors over the Summer months - both holiday makers and residents. Throughout July and August they are open from 9:00am until 8:00pm.
