Asa on the Benidorm set
With series 5 of ITV's hit comedy "Benidorm" about to come to an end, I was in the enviable position of meeting up with one of the newest and undeniably hottest cast members... Asa Elliott!
He made his debut in last years Benidorm Christmas Special appearing as himself and returning due to huge popular demand for the current fifth series. He is the only cast member to actually appear as himself, something which Asa finds a huge compliment when he see's the credits rolling at the end of each episode; "Asa Elliott played by Asa Eliott"! In the last episode he gets his teeth into some acting as well as singing...

The hunky Mancunian, originally from Stockport, is named after the Manchester City player and subsequent caretaker manager Asa Hartford, who guided the Blues through 6 league matches and 2 league cup games. Asa is still an avid Manchester City supporter, something inherited from his father and the pair regularly attend matches together - both home and away.

It may suprise you as it did me, that Asa is in fact a regular visitor to Benidorm. His first brush with Benidorm was as a child, whereby he use to come on holiday regularly with his grandparents. He loved the place so much that at the age of 18 he decided to come over for 6 months with a friend, working in bars in order to make an honest living. Having studied drama at college, he had a burning passion to continue in the entertainment industry.

Asa and I
In 2004, Asa performed on "Stars In Their Eyes" as Bobby Vee, which by coincidence was hosted by Matthew Kelly who has also just been in an episode of Benidorm series 5 - what a small world!!
Following that experience he literally jumped into his car and drove to Benidorm, where he ended up staying for 5 years - performing at various cabaret clubs, most notably "Sandra's". During his time here he was one part of the original "Queen Show" performing regularly at Morgans Tavern, aka Neptunes Bar. You see, all roads lead back to the Benidorm series ... spooky or what!

Striking up a working relationship with Benidorm writter Derren Litten, he has now found himself in the successful position he is in today. In fact, Asa was already living back in the UK when he was asked to appear in the Benidorm Christmas special, but was delighted to make to journey over with the other cast members. He is now happily settled in London and thanks to the huge success of the series has an agent. He has various proposals which he is looking at but one almost certainly is a panto this coming Christmas! His real ambition would be to appear in a West End musical where he would be able to combine both his singing and acting skills.

He returned back to Benidorm for a boys reunion with fellow cast member Tony Maudsley and Derren Litten, who both came for the weekend and did some guest performances at Sandra's whilst here for the week.
