The famed British fancy dress day took place today, Thursday 17 transforming parts of the Rincon de Loix area of Benidorm into a giant street carnival. The sun was blazing and revellers started to appear on Calle Gerona before midday, which had been closed off to traffic to allow the anticipated crowds of an estimated 30,000 to roam safely.
There was certainly a spectacular array of costumes, with everyone enjoying the party atmosphere with so many going to great lengths to dress up - simply fabulous. Although police were in the background keeping a watch, they seemed to have a quiet afternoon with no sign of any evident trouble.
A giant stage and DJ outside Morgans had many dancing in the street and a parade created a focal point during the afternoon, with hotel groups and bar chains sponsoring floats for the occasion, accompanied by dance troops performing choreographed routines and bands.
A special cheer went up when retired legendary performer "Sticky Vicki" was spotted alongside her daughter, who has taken on the crown. Spirits didn´t dampen at all and as the sun went down the partying continued, with everyone evidently having a fabulous time. Same again next year everyone?
