Located on Plaza del Puerto, the promenade in front of the Casino Mediterraneo and next to the large "pirate" ship at Alicante harbour, you will find an outlet fair with more than 70 stalls. It is not like the usual Sunday market which you find in Benidorm or any other town in the province, but made up of local shop keepers who are looking to sell off the ends of their summer stock.

Tachi - Costa Blanca´s answer to Andy Warhol

The town of Altea is renowned for being very bohemian, with art galleries and street artists plentiful. Part of this is explained due to the fact that Altea houses the fine arts faculty of Alicante University.Throughout the summer months, if you wonder up the cobbled streets of the old town towards the church, you are flanked by galleries and exhibits displayed on the white washed walls of buildings.

Benidorm faces a harsh Winter as HOSBEC, the Hoteliers Association confirmed that there is an increase in the number of hotels closing during the off season. Antonio Mayor said "they are a necessary temporary adjustment in the current economic climate that is affecting all industries in the area".

Ryanair proposes new routes for Alicante

Star InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar Inactive

Budget Irish airline, Ryanair must be feeling the loss of business as much as El Altet Alicante airport since cutting back flights over the ongoing dispute. They have sent a letter to AENA, the airport operator in which it proposes to create new routes and also to increase the number of flights from April 2013... sounds like great news.

Driving requirements in Spain

Star InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar Inactive

One of yesterday´s UK newspapers ran a story under the headline "ID cards by the back door as drivers face order to carry licence at all times". At the moment it is only a proposal, but as usual the "human right loonies" will be chanting about it being an infringement on their rights blah blah blah. This is nothing new in Spain, where you are required to do so by law.

Over the last few weeks, ITV have been broadcasting the Spanish and French editions of "May the Best House Win".  I read one comment by a blogger who goes under the name of "Mr Grumpy" that "the program was so awful I would recommend that anyone looks out for it in future " and that "British TV had plummeted to new depths".... Well, as he said its all a matter of personal taste and I love watching it - one persons junk is another persons treasure!

Controversy as Benidorm church spends thousands

Unnecessary and scandalous are just two of the many words used to describe the controversy surrounding the new church organ in Benidorm. The church of San Jaime, located in the Old Town up at the Mirador have just spent an eye watering 332,000 euros on a new organ - apparently the "Rolls Royce" of organs and made up of three keyboards and two thousand pipes.

One of the most breath taking views to be had of Benidorm has to be from the top of the Sierra Helada (meaning Ice Mountain) - often referred to as "The Hill" at the Rincon de Loix.  Many holiday makers trek up to the top, but be aware that its probably a good 45 minute walk each way (obviously depending on how fit you are)... and there´s no coffee shop at the top, so take a bottle of water!
