On Sunday the sponsored charity bike ride took place in aid of Anémona - a Benidorm based breast cancer charity organised by Gary, who runs the Giving4Giving charity shop in La Nucia. The Downhill Bike Ride company very generously provided the bikes and helmets free of charge for this very worthy event.In total 30 participant took part - and let me tell you that age was no barrier!

For those departing from Alicante airport or arrived and waiting to be collected you can now visit the newly opened "Costa Coffee". In a smart move, the kiosk is located outside on the ground floor - departures level, which allows the smokers to be able to sit in peace and chuff away! There was a steady stream of customers either buying and sitting down or ordering a take away.

New security cameras in Benidorm

Benidorm City Council have installed 4 new "traffic" cameras in the Rincon de Loix and yesterday the Mayor Agustin Navarro and several Councillors visited the operations room from where they are controlled - officially switching them on.  The new cameras are all located in the area predominantly frequented by the British and bring the total number of cameras in the town to 50.

Well Im pleased to say that at very long last normality returns to Spain, well nearly, as primary school children go back to school today– albeit only half days… us mums are grateful for small mercies! (Secondary schools go back next Monday) That may sound rather harsh but if you had school aged children that had been off since the middle of June then Im sure you would feel no different.

Starting on Monday the resort will host its third Benidorm Gay Pride – but the main events, which everyone looks forward to will be held on Friday 13th and Saturday 14th. It is the last of the Prides across Europe - they intentionally don´t all host them at the same time to enable people to enjoy more than one.

Change in Law for youth in Spain

Many will it hard to believe but the age on consent here in Spain is 13 - however that is about to change as am amendment proposed by the Ministry of Justice will increase that to 16. The bill should hopefully go through by the end of this month - it has already had approval in the first round of voting in parliament and set to become law by late Autumn.

Bad weather affects wine and olive harvest

The torrential rain that fell last week in the province has has damaged wine grapes as well as other fruit and vegetables according to the farmers association BDA. At this time of the year the vines are almost ready to harvest and this will have consequences for the wine industry.

An orderly queue was already eagerly awaiting the arrival of actor Jake Canuso, aka Mateo at 10.30am outside Morgans Tavern, even though the signing wasn´t due to start for another half an hour. Morgans Tavern is the fictitious Neptunes Bar from the series.
