If you want to ever know where the filming is taking place you just need to walk around town to see where the Primoti vans and generator are parked up. Yesterday they took advantage of the break in weather .... whoever said it doesn't rain here in Spain obviously only ever comes here in the Summer. Its been raining cats and dogs over the last few days

On Tuesday a brand new British Family Medical Centre opened in the heart of Albir. Following the closure of the only one late last year - due to retirement, a big gap was left in the market. Albir has a huge ex-pat community and many of those are retired older people who do not feel comfortable going to the Centro de Salud, Spains equivalent of the local Health Centre.

An Interview with Francis Matthews - producer of "Benidorm"

Star InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar Inactive

Following a one week break, filming has resumed at "The Pink House" - the set for the Solana hotel reception.  It is there that I met up with Francis Matthews, who is the producer of the current series of ITV's hit comedy "Benidorm". He is not to be mistaken  with "Hammer Studio's Revenge of Frankinstiens"  Francis Matthews - very confusing having two actors with the same name, but this one is far younger and better looking!

Two British pensioners died during a sudden freak flash flood which swept over Benidorm yesterday lunch time. The couple aged 70 and 72 ran a tea & coffee stall at the weekly La Cala street market and were washed away by the torrential downpour - six others have been slightly hurt. The Guardia Civil and emergency services attended the scene but there was little that could be done.

Star InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar Inactive

For all you fans and lovers of the ITV hit comedy Benidorm the following will possibly disappoint - especially if you are over on a weeks holiday and are hoping to bump into one of the cast ... they are back in Blighty on a mid season break! Filming finished on Friday and virtually all of the cast have gone back to to UK for a "holiday" from the sun !

Things you can easily buy in Benidorm but not in the UK.

Youth culture in Spain is totally different to that back in the UK - it is one of the reasons many families move here. You hardly ever hear of knife crime here - and when you do its almost always Ex-Pat youths who have had too much to drink or East European gangs that are involved. In the UK its almost a weekly occurance on the news that yet another 15/16 year old has been fatally stabbed

Following a successful trial over the summer to pedestrianise part of the Calle Gerona, Benidorm council now wants to make it permanent and expand the scheme. Mayor Navaro said that the trial was welcomed by both local businesses and  visitors who could dine al fresco without the noise, danger and pollution of passing cars... and obviously smokers were able to enjoy their cigarettes.

Benidorm book signing

As I arrived at Morgan's Tavern, aka Neptune's Bar, the road was almost blocked by the swell of fans waiting eagerly for the 2 o'clock book signing session. What a turnout -  some fans had arrived at 11am wanting to be the first in the queue to ensure that they got their copies. The books for the signing - 400 copies - had only arrived last night ...

Enhancements to petrol stations around Benidorm.

Star InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar Inactive

When you pop down to your local service station you obviously expect to find petrol, maybe some basic groceries, newspapers ....... what else ? Well I was rather suprised at what I found in my local Repsol stations. Its fairly common to find a car wash but a laundrette? At one of the Repsol stations in Altea they have what looks like a porta-cabin with a selection of washing machines and tumble dryers!
