Hotels are reporting 95% occupancy over the Christmas period, with many domestic tourists coming from the capital Madrid and other major Spanish cities. Firstly there is the ongoing saga at Tiki Beach – which could set a precedent for many other bars and clubs, especially along the Levante front. Now Calle Santo Domingo and San Miguel in the heart of the Old Town – better known as Tapas Alley are being targeted.

  • The 2015 Gastronomic Calendar was launched from the rather windy 20th floor terrace of the Hotel Madeira in Benidorm on Friday - the very same terrace where the Mayor greeted Holloywood icon Joan Collins last year. The event was introduced by the Councillor for Tourism Gema Amor together with Mayor Agustin Navarro and representatives of the participating restaurants and those in the tourism & catering industry. It has only been in the last five years that Benidorm has been holding events to promote the town's gastronomy – the first of which was a "Tapas and Pinchos" competition. The week long event proved so popular, not only among the restaurants, but also with customers that more such events were added throughout the year. In her speech Gema said that it was important to continue to highlight the quality and standard of cuisine on offer here in Benidorm for the discerning diner.

  • The year has got off to a great start for Benidorm – the unusually mild start to the year has seen temperatures hovering around the 20 degree mark and many even braving the waters for a swim. The last of the Christmas festivities takes place tonight – the 3 Kings Parade which is celebrated in all towns and cities across Spain and tomorrow is an official Bank Holiday here. Then the sales officially begin – or "rebajas" as they are known here.

  • The night market "Les Nits del Castell" up at the Mirador in Benidorm Old Town has started - and will be on until the 15th September. The Mirador is home to probably the most spectacular view of Benidorm - you can see both the Levante and Poniente bays from there. It is a very popular tourist spot and a great place for an evening stroll - with plenty of bars to enjoy a drink while taking in the view.

  • Think of Spain and the three S’s instantly spring to mind - Sun, Sea and Sangria! But food wise, certainly in Benidorm you’d be led to believe that it is all typically British fare. But Fish and Chips, Pie and Chips, English fry-up's… the renowned greedy mans breakfast has been well documented here and Sunday roasts are not the only things on offer. Certainly down in the Rincon area, where the majority of British holidaymakers go it may be. When it comes to food, countries are automatically associated with a certain dish: Italy - pasta and pizza; the UK once upon a time it was fish & chips, now it’s more than likely to be curry; Austria – schnitzel; Hungary – goulash; Greece - moussaka and here in Spain, tapas and paella.   • One of the exciting things about going abroad is sampling the local cuisine and the two things that most people associate with Spain is Tapas and Paella. The Spanish never ever eat paella in the evening – only at lunchtime as they say it will sit on your stomach. Here in Benidorm, the best place to sample Tapas is in the Old Town on Calle Santo Domingo, better known to most as Tapas Alley. Located just off the walking street, the entire road is lined with tapas bars and here you will be able to sample some exceptional top-quality Spanish gastronomy.   • Benidorm is hosting the sixth annual "Tapas and Pinchos" competition – which starts on Saturday June 4 and lasts until Sunday June 12. It is part of the hugely successful Gastronomy Calendar, which aims to highlight and promote the standard and quality of cuisine on offer here in Benidorm.
    In total 28 establishments are taking part, many of which are located down Calle Santo Domingo – better known as Tapas Alley, in the Old Town.

Each delicious "bite" - which looks like a piece of art costs a set price of just 3 euros and you get to vote for your favourite one with the chance of winning a meal for 2 at any of the participating restaurants.

Tapas Alley is located in the heart of the Old Town, directly off the main pedestrianized walking street- Passeig de la Carretera, on Calle Santo Domingo, although you will hardly ever hear it being referred to by that name.
