What many consider the highlight of Benidorm Pride week – the Parade, took place on Saturday afternoon. Participants and spectators started to gather at the Rincon end of the Levante beach from around 3pm, for the anticipated 4pm start... which as with all things Spanish, was late! But not many seemed to notice as they walked around admiring the array of multi coloured outfits.
Benidorm was a rainbow of colour for Pride
The police closed the road so that the floats could all line up and add finishing touches to their vehicles There were definitely some striking outfits, which caught many peoples attention and body paint was certainly in abundance! The whole area took on a carnival atmosphere, with the spectators also joining in and dancing to the music - even the sun was blazing down on the parade!
Procession headed down Levante beach
The procession headed down the Levante beach front and the promenade was lined on both sides with holidaymakers – with many jumping off the beach as they heard the music approaching. It then turned up the Avd Europa by the Hotel Cimbel and continued down the Avd Mediterraneo in the direction of the Town Hall and onto the Park L´Aiguere where the partying continued with an open air concert at the Auditorium Julio Iglesias.
Austin Powers came to Benidorm!
It can certainly be said that this is probably the best Pride that Benidorm has hosted – which is thanks to Sammy Kruz and Geoff Gartland, this years organisers... they have certainly got their work cut out for next years event!Hope some of the participants are keeps their outfits for British Fancy Dress Day on Thursday 13th November!
