If you fancy a day out from Benidorm, head out in the direction of Altea/Calpe and just past Altea Hills – with the iconic golden domes of the Russian Orthodox church you will see a sign for Mascarat. Here you will find “Greenwich Marina” – a lovely area with bars and restaurants dotted around, where you can enjoy a drink while admiring the yachts and boats bobbing up and down.
Head down towards the sea and you will find a pebbly cove with a chiringito – great for lunch. Chiringitos are basically wooden huts which pop up over the busy summer months all over Spain. It is very peaceful and tranquil and ideal for snorkeling, but you do need a car to get there.
Overlooking the bay is a spectacular residential complex “Mascarat Beach” – a very exclusive and highly sought after beachfront residence made up of 84 two, three & four bedroom luxury apartments. Built in 2010, I managed to have a look around inside and was extremely impressed.
There is 24 hour security, an independent water and electricity supply in case of cuts, three communal swimming pools plus a gym and sauna, not to mention an immaculate underground garage plus trespaso (store room that is bigger than most Spanish apartments) for each unit.
As for the apartments, well top end is an understatement. They all have beautiful views overlooking the manicured gardens, pool and sea – each with a huge private balcony and Jacuzzi and there is direct access to the beach from the communal gardens.
Inside no expense has been spared – the floors are 18mm wooden parquet, kitchens fully equipped with corian worktops, under floor heating in the bathrooms and the best quality materials used throughout. I could certainly live in any of them without any hesitation - there is even fibre optic internet, so ideal for workaholics.
As I drove out was already mentally arranging my furniture while trying to pick the numbers for my Euromillions lottery ticket, which would enable me to have my pick of the complex….
