The world famous Oktoberfest, is a beer festival traditionally held every year in Munich, Germany. But this year, for the first time, Benidorm is to hold its very own 3 day Oktoberfest starting tomorrow - Thursday 18th October from 6pm until Saturday 20th October. All the action will be centred down Calle Santa Domingo, better known as Tapas Alley in the Old Town, which starts at the Cava Aragonesa tapas bar.
One of the most breath taking views to be had of Benidorm has to be from the top of the Sierra Helada (meaning Ice Mountain) - often referred to as "The Hill" at the Rincon de Loix. Many holiday makers trek up to the top, but be aware that its probably a good 45 minute walk each way (obviously depending on how fit you are)... and there´s no coffee shop at the top, so take a bottle of water!

When anyone mentions that they are going on holiday to the "Costa Blanca", the assumption is that they are going to Benidorm. But as Steve Heapy, Managing Director of Jet2Holidays said "Benidorm is popular, but we have noticed a surge in demand to the surrounding areas such as Altea, Albir and Calpe".British tour operators have said that "customers are becoming more discerning and are demanding new destinations.

According to a survey carried out by a national holiday company, British holiday makers are finding going on holiday increasingly stressful! Unsurprisingly the main cause of this stress is the journey itself! Hot on the trail of the Altea parade two weeks ago, it was Benidorm´s turn last night. The crowds were certainly out in numbers - the entire length of Calle Gambo was packed, with people standing shoulder to shoulder. There was a combination of local Spanish and holiday makers, but you could tell which was which. The Spanish were all very smartly turned out, with men in jackets and tie and ladies wearing their Sunday best.

For those that go on the N332, you will have been quite relieved when works started some years back on the widening of the Benidorm section. It is used by thousands daily, and more so since the toll rates went up on the AP7. Many now use it as an alternative to get to and from the airport, time wise there is hardly anything in it - I always use the N332 and save myself about 6 euros on a return trip.
What does a group of 13 "lads" in Benidorm conjure up? Trouble..... well I was about to find out as I met up with the group at their hotel. They were officially here on a cricket tour, members of the "Old Wimbledonians Cricket Club" - but how much cricket was likely to be played I wondered!

I bet you have often walked past bars in Benidorm with boards advertising "Eyes Down" and wondered why they don´t call it bingo... which is what it is. The reason is that it is illegal to gamble in Spain outside of authorized establishments. The bars hope that by writing "eyes down" it will fool the police - sometimes it works and other times not.
