Iberdrola, the state electricity supplier here in Spain has no hesitation when it comes to cutting people off. Yesterday, a block of apartments in Alfaz del Pi had it power cut off  ... and according to one resident it is not just the "crisis" as its been going on for years. The main issue with the 132 block "Arabi Park, situated behind Arabi Park is that there is only one meter that serves the entire complex!

Christians parade in Altea

Star InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar Inactive

Last night was the turn of the Christians - but you could almost have mistaken it for a Christian Grey parade. Those girls that have read the book trilogy "50 Shades of Grey" will know exactly what Im talking about.... yes I admit I am one of the millions of women that have read them! The first 3 penyas were kitted out in leather and thigh high boots - thats the girls and the men had chains across their backs ... It looks like security has become a top priority at long last. The PP senator for the province of Alicante, Augustine Almodobar has announced that they will present an "initiative to develop a specific security plan for tourist destinations" to Parliament. Almodobar is on the committee for Tourism and also spokesman for the PP party.

Moors parade in Altea

Last night was the turn of the Moros (as they say in Spanish), to show off their stuff... and what a turnout. Spectators were already vying for front row positions along the route by 7pm - an hour before the official start time. I must say I laughed to myself when I saw people bring their own chairs - one man was pushing a set of 4 plastic garden chairs in a pram.

Benidorm "Love padlocks" sold for scrap

Star InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar Inactive

Many visitors that came to Benidorm would demonstrate their love by leaving an initialed padlock in one of two places in the Old Town. Either on the stairs leading from Mal Pas beach up to the Mirador or up at the Mirador itself. In fact, it became a tourist attraction in its own right - many would come just to read the messages.

In the "Money Mail" section of today´s Daily Mail there is a rather interesting article about car hire under the headline "Tourists held to ransom by car hire sharks". It is specifically reporting on several incidents relating to Goldcar... a very popular company here because of its low prices. However, on reading the piece it shows how and why they are at first glance so reasonable

The Tourism department in Benidorm will certainly have their work cut of for them next year as the budget has just been announced. Of the 100,000 euro budget, only 0.016% has been allocated to the Tourism Foundation, which is responsible for promoting the town to attract new tourists.

Well the Benidorm edition of "Come Dine with Me" was aired on Friday night - and what a hoot! For those that actually know me, they too will be laughing at how I have been portrayed....

The day had finally arrived... today was the occasion that I´d been working to since May - "Presentation Day". The Mayor gave a private audience at the Town Hall prior to the official ceremony in the Rincon, with the unveiling of the plaque. We were greeted by Agustin Navarro and his Deputy Gema Amor, who is also Councillor for Tourism in his private office on the second floor.ç

At the beginning of July, I accompanied BBC 2 Director Alicia Arce who was researching for a forthcoming documentary they were planning on filming in the region. The programme was to concentrate on how the economic crisis is affecting businesses and people living in the area and she was back this week with a cameraman to start recording. One of the people which she interviewed was local businessman David Craig, owner of Kings Food.

Benidorm series 6 ? Let´s hope so...

Benidorm - a bit like marmite. You either love it or hate it! Funnily enough, many that knock the resort have never actually been, so how they can make an informed opinion is beyond me. They probably read that beacon of truth - "The Sun" ! The same goes for the Benidorm series.... but viewing figures and a multitude of awards prove that it is a popular show

Live music on Levante beach

Star InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar InactiveStar Inactive

Walk along any beach in the UK such as Blackpool or Skegness and you are likely to hear rap, rock or something from the charts pounding from a portable CD player nestling in the sand. Normally along the top end of Levante you can catch the loud rock ballads coming from either Daytona or Heartbreak, but yesterday holiday makers were caught off guard when a string quartet appeared!
