Yesterday evening professionals from the hospitality industry gathered at the Casino Mediterraneo in Benidorm for the 4th Champagne & Cava Fair. The annual event was organized by Fransisco Cano, President of the Federation of Sommeliers in the Valencian region. 28 different bodegas, wineries and suppliers showcased over 100 different products, which were all available to sample in preparation for the festive season – which will quickly be upon us!

The Benidorm Moors & Christians parade took place yesterday evening – giving the locals a chance to raid the dressing up box once again! It was a slightly haphazard start but eventually they got into their stride – with each group followed by a local band. But not all of the bands were from Benidorm – some came from as far afield as Parcent and Alicante.

There is mixed reaction to the story that Benidorm is out of control – obviously depending on who you talk to! Following the publication of "that picture" in the Spanish press the Town Hall have announced that they are looking to introduce some kind of by-law to curb this excess and lewd behavior in public.

The much anticipated Moors and Christians parade is taking place in Altea this weekend – the highlight of the annual fiesta calendar. It began yesterday with with a street party for all the penyas, with fireworks and bands playing into the early hours of this morning. After the carnival in Rio this must definately come a close second for elaborate and eye catching outfits!

You´re never too old to go on holiday – as has been proved by Madge and Charlie Pallett from Shepway in Kent this week. The couple hit the UK national headlines last week, as at the ages of 91 and 93 respectively, they had never taken a holiday abroad throughout their 71 years of marriage! Well that changed as they, together with daughters Yvonne Elliott, Doreen England and granddaughter Leigh Plumbly headed to the top holiday destination for Brits – BENIDORM!

Benidorm is a hub of activity every evening – it´s generally when the resort springs to life. There is certainly no shortage of entertainers to watch – but there is always room for something different. Here for 1 week only is a unique gentleman who to a degree is a performer, but not in the conventional sense and I met up with him yesterday. His name is Micky "Gypsy Boy" Vermooch and he is a medium and psychic – the gypsy being reference to his heritage, as his parents were Romany gypsies! Most people fall into one of two camps here - believe there is something there or that it is utter tosh - the later generally being the men!

What many consider the highlight of Benidorm Pride week – the Parade, took place on Saturday afternoon. Participants and spectators started to gather at the Rincon end of the Levante beach from around 3pm, for the anticipated 4pm start... which as with all things Spanish, was late! But not many seemed to notice as they walked around admiring the array of multi coloured outfits.

There is a huge choice of hotels in Benidorm and often it's a hard task trying to decide which is the best one for you. Most attract a mixture of nationalities but for one, or rather two in particular – The Ambassador Playa I & II, 95% of the clients are Brits! So what attracts so many there? The good central location on Calle Gerona must be one of the main temptations – virtually opposite Morgans Tavern in the heart of the nightlife so no need for taxi´s. But there has to be more to it surely...

The continued warm weather in Benidorm has been a bonus for those coming on holiday. Sea temperatures have been hitting 29 degrees, the highest recorded in the last 10 years - so more like getting into a bath rather than a refreshing dip to cool down! But the unusually warm sea temperatures have bought with them a number of unwelcome visitors – jellyfish, or medusas in Spanish!
